Position Summary:The District Manager (DM) provides leadership, coaching, and operational oversight for multiple Cubbard Express convenience stores. This role ensures consistent execution of company standards, drives sales and profitability, manages labor and shrink, ensures compliance with safety and brand standards, and supports store managers in developing strong teams and delivering excellent customer experiences. The DM acts as the primary liaison between field operations and corporate leadership, ensuring strategic goals are translated into day-to-day store performance.Key ResponsibilitiesLeadership & People DevelopmentRecruit, train, and coach Store Managers and Assistant Managers.Conduct regular store visits to assess leadership, customer service, and operational discipline.Hold weekly 1:1s with Store Managers.Partner with HR on hiring, corrective actions, and performance reviews.Promote a culture of accountability, integrity, and teamwork.Operational ExcellenceEnsure stores follow company standards for merchandising, cleanliness, safety, and brand presentation.Validate compliance with policies including cash handling, inventory, foodservice, age-restricted sales, and loss prevention.Drive consistent execution of promotions, pricing, and new product rollouts.Conduct store inspection reports and lead corrective action plans.Financial PerformanceReview weekly sales, fuel gallons, gross profit, labor %, and expense reports.Hold Store Managers accountable for meeting targets (inside sales, margin, shrink, and labor).Identify opportunities to increase sales and reduce controllable costs.Partner with VP of Retail to plan quarterly and annual budgets.Customer ExperienceEnsure stores deliver friendly, efficient service and uphold the Cubbard Express brand promise.Review mystery shop, survey, or feedback scores and coach managers accordingly.Compliance & SafetyLead or assist with investigations of incidents, cash shortages, or customer complaints.Maintain compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.Qualifications5+ years minimum of multi-unit retail management experience (Convenience Store or QSR preferred, will consider General Merchandise, Food).Strong financial acumen with ability to analyze P&L statements.Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and POS/back-office systems.Valid driver’s license; ability to travel 3–4 days/week between stores.Performance MetricsInside sales growth vs. prior year.Labor % within company goal.Shrink % within company goal.Employee retention and turnover.Compliance and inspection scores.Task ScheduleDaily TasksEnsure fuel survey entries are completed at each store by 6:00 AM (Mon–Sat).Send morning message to store managers with updates/reminders as needed.Review Paycom for missing punches.Conduct store visits and walks; check for outs, cleanliness, and customer service.Assist store managers during visits as needed.Review cash over/short reports.Confirm fuel price changes have been implemented.Ensure all stores are fully staffed and work with HR to drive hiring if needed.Respond to urgent issues (staffing, maintenance, POS, safety).Weekly TasksConduct in-person store visits at each location a minimum of once a week.Complete weekly report with need to know updates.Review and address cigarette and lotto shortages across stores.Review all voids, refunds, and error corrects throughout the district.Ensure employee timecards are approved in Paycom.Review write offs per write off policy.Confirm all weekly schedules are entered into Paycom.Control overtime via preemptive hiring and maximize schedule efficiency.Review weekly KPI reports: inside sales, fuel gallons, budgeted labor hours.Approve schedules, review payroll and overtime exceptions.Monthly TasksComplete full store inspections.Perform cash audits, ATM audits.Review lottery and inventory audits.Conduct night rides.Ensure food service end-of-month counts are completed and submitted on time.Review inventory results with store managers and develop improvement plans.Review turnover, hiring needs, and training progress.Validate promotional execution and merchandising standards.Submit expense report.
