Position Information

TxDOT Houston District is looking for a District Maintenance Engineer IV or V for the Maintenance Department with 7 to 8 years of experience in the transportation field who is willing to take upon this challenge. This will be a lead worker position to support the Director of Maintenance, on maintenance contracts and various planning activities to meet the district's short- and long-term goals. The Houston District maintains over 5,600 lane miles in Harris County, which is nearly 50% of its 6-county, district-wide roadway network. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level are virtually self-supervising and assume direct accountability for the work product.

Transportation Engineer IV and V

• Advises on routine through complex contract questions in daily support of District / Division / Region contract users.
• Analyzes and assists in the resolution of contract problems and disputes.
• Develops short-term and long-term goals and coordinates planning activities and resources required to meet goals.
• May serve as a lead worker by serving as a resource for complex questions; presenting workflow and operational updatesto the supervisor/manager; providing input on team members’ career conversations; and approving leave requests to ensureoperations coverage.
• Assists in the development, preparation and letting of maintenance contracts for the district.
• Performs pavement designs and makes recommendations.
• Responsible for a pavement management program.
• Reviews change orders, supplemental agreements, memorandum agreements and extra work orders, reviews monthly and final estimates prior to submittal.
• Reviews, coordinates, monitors and approves routine and emergency maintenance contracts; performs/oversees maintenancespecifications writing/review, plans and proposal review, and preparation of estimates for letting.
• Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor's degree in engineering or related science bachelor's or higher degree accepted by TX PELS.

Experience: 7 years engineering, transportation engineering, or related engineering experience (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Related graduate level education may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

• Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions
• Subject to extreme cold and heat; below 32 and/or above 100 degrees for more than one hour
• Subject to noise

• Medium work: Lift up to 50 lbs. at a time and frequently lift or carry objects up to 25 lbs.
