Job summary

Sierra Pacific Industries, a fourth-generation family-owned company based in Northern California, seeks a qualified District Forester for our Burney district. The role involves THP development, contract oversight, and field surveys across Shasta, Lassen, Modoc, and Siskiyou counties, with burnout-prone fieldwork and collaboration with regulatory agencies.

You will manage timberlands from Burney, CA, and interact with state agencies, foresters, and teams to support sustainable timber management

Qualifications

• California RPF license or ability to qualify for and obtain by exam after qualifying experience
• Familiarity with California Forest Practice Rules and THP preparation
• Understanding of logging, road construction, and reforestation operations
• Excellent communication skills, self-motivated, and strong work ethic
• Proficient computer skills, including Word, Excel, and GIS-based software
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Valid driver's license and ability to operate four-wheel drive vehicle on forest roads

Responsibilities

• Prepare Timber Harvest Plans (THPs) with research, field work, mapping, and writing
• Administer contracts for field operations including logging, road construction, and services
• Conduct botanical, wildlife, archeological, road, and watercourse surveys
• Collaborate with reforestation activities including planting and site prep
• Interact with state regulatory agencies and diverse groups professionally
• Perform forestry project work in varied weather and field conditions
• Hike in remote mountainous regions using maps, compass, and GPS
• Work both in teams and independently in remote areas
• Assist with other district forestry work as needed
