Job summary

Thurston County District Court in Olympia, Washington, invites applications for the position of Court Commissioner for the District Court. This appointment, made by the Presiding Judge, entails performing all duties assigned and supporting the court’s mission to provide equal access to a fair and impartial system of justice.

As a member of the leadership team, the Commissioner will participate in developing and implementing court goals, handle criminal, civil, traffic, and family law matters,

Qualifications

• Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school.
• Trial experience in civil and/or criminal matters in District or Superior Court.
• Resident and registered voter in Thurston County; member in good standing of the State Bar of Washington.

Responsibilities

• Hear and determine criminal matters, including arraignments, pre-trial motions, trials and sentencing.
• Hear and determine civil matters, including pre-trial motions, trials, and garnishments.
• Enter defaults and default judgments.
• Hear traffic matters and issue judgments.
• Enter temporary and permanent anti-harassment and domestic violence protection orders.
