Job summary

Thurston County Government seeks a Deputy Prosecuting Attorney to join the Criminal Division. The role involves prosecuting District, Juvenile, and/or Superior Court cases with professionalism and integrity, under general supervision.

You will perform legal research, draft documents, and advocate at trial, with opportunities to handle appeals and train staff. Qualified applicants bring strong legal skills, sound judgment, and a commitment to public service as part of a collaborative team

Qualifications

• Graduation from a recognized and accredited school of law and a member in good standing of the Washington State Bar Association.
• Knowledge of the laws of the State of Washington; rules and procedures of courts and administrative agencies; basic litigation techniques.
• Ability to perform legal research; analyze and apply statutes and precedents; provide clear advice and arguments.

Responsibilities

• Review evidence and decide on charges in accordance with policy and law; manage cases from filing through disposition.
• Provide legal advice to law enforcement and assist with search warrants, subpoenas, and on-scene investigations.
• Prepare cases for trial including interviewing witnesses, developing strategy, and presenting evidence.
• Conduct trial advocacy independently with professional discretion.
• Handle appeals and prepare briefs and oral arguments when required.
• May provide training to attorneys and staff and may supervise other attorneys or staff.
