Job summary

Maryland Judiciary seeks District Court Commissioners to review Applications for Statement of Charges and determine probable cause for criminal charges. Commissioners may issue Criminal Summons or Arrest Warrants based on probable cause and handle pre-trial release decisions.

The role requires residency in the county or a contiguous county, CPR certification, and CN5 record checks; strong interpersonal skills and discretion are essential. Benefits include medical, dental and retirement plans.

Qualifications

• Must reside in the county (or contiguous county) where employed.
• CPR certification required upon hire and must be renewed every 24 months.
• Must maintain NCIC CN5 certification for background checks every 24 months.
• Excellent interpersonal and professional demeanor; ability to type efficiently.

Responsibilities

• Review Applications for Statement of Charges and determine probable cause.
• Determine pre-trial release and accept Bail Bond moneys or other surety.
• Process civil petitions for interim Peace Orders and interim Protective Orders when applicable.
• Serve as first point of contact for the public and police in filing documents and advising rights.
