Job summary

The Maryland Judiciary seeks a Bailiff for the District Court Security division. The role involves protecting Judges, staff, and visitors, screening entrants, and operating courthouse security equipment to maintain a safe environment.

Responsibilities include courtroom preparedness, enforcing court procedures, and responding to emergencies. Candidates must have a HS diploma and MD law enforcement experience or MPCTC handgun training, with the ability to be called in as needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required.
• 1 year law enforcement experience (federal/state/local) or equivalent.
• Certified training incl. MD handgun training required.

Responsibilities

• Ensure safety of Judges, staff, and the public.
• Screen courthouse entrants; operate metal detectors and scanners.
• Prepare courtrooms and maintain order during sessions.
• Arrest, detain, or eject disruptive individuals as needed.
• Respond to emergencies; support evacuations and reentries.
• Maintain essential personnel status and be available for call-in.
