Salary Range: $36,500 - Level I; $40,200 - Level II

Job Description

Basic Purpose: Positions involve planning, supervising, and performing transportation-related work, including research, planning, design, survey, environmental studies, bid lettings, construction, maintenance, or project management. Responsibilities may encompass highway and bridge construction, utility management, property appraisal, relocation assistance, traffic operations, materials testing, or laboratory management.

Typical Functions:

  • Sampling and testing materials for highway construction and maintenance; plant inspections; preparing certifications.
  • Surveying highway grades and alignments.
  • Collecting highway system statistics and documentation.
  • Conducting traffic studies for transportation improvements.
  • Managing bid processes for construction projects, including developing proposals and coordinating with contractors.
  • Inspecting and overseeing contractors and utility work, ensuring compliance, and preparing estimates.
  • Planning and reviewing transportation systems, assessing service levels and future needs.
  • Performing real estate duties such as property appraisal, acquisition, and relocation assistance.
  • Auditing research programs, plans, and project documentation.
  • Supervising transportation employees.
Education and Experience

Level I: No specific requirements.

Level II: One year of transportation-related experience or equivalent; or two college courses in relevant fields can substitute for experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of geometry, algebra, laboratory equipment, construction materials, and English language. Ability to measure, collect data, operate equipment, and transportation-related machinery.

Special Requirements
