Job Description

Basic Purpose: Positions in this job family are responsible for planning, supervising, and performing technical and professional transportation work, including research, planning, design, survey, environmental studies, bid lettings, construction, maintenance, or project management. Responsibilities may include highway and bridge construction, utility management, property appraisal and acquisition, traffic operations, materials testing, or laboratory management.

Typical Functions
  • Sampling and testing materials for highway construction and maintenance; inspecting plants and preparing certifications.
  • Surveying highway grades and alignments.
  • Collecting statistics and documenting the highway system.
  • Conducting traffic studies for system improvements.
  • Managing bid processes for construction projects.
  • Overseeing contractors and ensuring compliance with plans and contracts.
  • Planning and reviewing transportation systems and assessing future needs.
  • Performing real estate duties such as property appraisal, acquisition, or relocation assistance.
  • Auditing research programs, plans, and project documentation.
  • Supervising transportation employees.
Education and Experience

Level I: No specific requirements.

Level II: One year of transportation-related work experience or equivalent education and experience, including two college courses in relevant fields.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of geometry, algebra, laboratory equipment, construction materials, and English language. Ability to measure distances, collect data, operate computers and transportation equipment.

Special Requirements

Valid Oklahoma driver's license and willingness to travel as required.
