Job summary

McCormick & Company is hiring a Distribution Technician - 2nd Shift in Salinas, CA to pick/pack/ship orders and operate material handling equipment in a fast-paced warehouse environment. The role includes inbound/outbound duties, documentation, and participation in inventory processes.

The position requires lifting 25–50 pounds, working around spice dust, and adapting to temperature extremes; overtime may be required to meet business needs.

Qualifications

• Bilingual English and Spanish preferred.
• High school diploma or GED required.
• Experience with RF terminals and basic computer literacy.
• Ability to lift 25–50 pounds repeatedly and work in temperature extremes.
• Must be able to work in an environment with spice dust and odors.

Responsibilities

• Performs assignments in one of seven activity groups: Order Selection, Replenishment, Inbound, Outbound, Returns, Organizer, Repack/Hazmat; may cover other activities as needed.
• Operates transporter, stand-up, reach or sit-down fork truck.
• Completes paperwork and system transactions per SOPs (pick lists, labels, placards).
• Identifies and communicates issues to shift Crew Leader or Managers.
• Attends shift meetings and suggests process improvements.
• Performs sanitation and battery changes as part of general duties.
• Other duties as assigned.

Position Overview

Under the general supervision of the Team Manager, this individual is responsible for picking/packing/shipping all customer orders in a timely (measured through Labor Management System - LMS) and accurate manner while operating material handling equipment (transporter, forklift, etc.). Performs general warehouse duties including loading, inbound receiving, returns, organizing, put‑away, replenishment, wrapping and push‑offs, and order selection. Is responsible for accurate input and provides customers with specific documentation and special services as needed. Other duties include filling “shorted" orders, co‑label order selection, export order selection, and assisting with inventory. Participates in Team meetings and completes special projects assigned. The incumbent is subject to temperature extremes. Overtime on short notice may be required.

• Operates transporter, stand‑up, reach or sit‑down fork truck.
• Completes all paperwork & system transactions in accordance with standard departmental operating procedures. Paperwork can include, pick list, labels, tagging and any customer required placards.
• Identifies and communicates issues to shift Crew Leader, Warehouse or Order Selection Team Manager.
• Attend shift/team meetings and recommends general process improvements.
• Performs general duties including sanitation and battery changing.
• Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

• Ability to obtain a forklift license via McCormick
• Ability to work in an environment with exposure to spice dust and odors, noise and vibration
• Ability to work in an environment that is subject to temperature extremes
• Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds on a continual basis and 25-50 pounds on a frequent basis

Preferred Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED
• Experience using radio frequency terminal
• Basic computer skills
• Bilingual in English & Spanish

Base Salary: $16.50 - $24.62.

Base salary compensation will be determined based on factors such as geographic location, skills, education, experience for this role, and/or internal equity of our current employees as part of any final offer. This position is also eligible to participate in McCormick’s Incentive Bonus (MIB) Plan/ McCormick’s Sales Incentive Bonus (SIB) Plan/ McCormick’s Dividend Program .
