Job summary

TRC Companies, Inc. in Grand Rapids, MI is seeking a Distribution Field Technician to support our Power Distribution Engineering team on overhead and underground distribution projects.

You will help prepare construction orders, assist with layouts, and coordinate with clients and landowners to advance project work. Ideal candidates may have limited or no prior experience, must be able to work outdoors, and be willing to travel within the utility client territory.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• No professional experience required but preferred.
• Ability to work outdoors and travel to project sites.
• Knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office desired.
• Ability to work alone and with a team.
• No certifications required.

Responsibilities

• Design and prepare construction orders for overhead/underground distribution facilities.
• Prepare design sketches, cost estimates, BOMs, and reports for projects.
• Assist in load studies and investigate outages to determine corrective actions.
• Contact landowners to negotiate easements and gather tax map information.
• Prepare and submit reports and gather field data; digitize drawings/maps.
• Track design activities using client and company systems.
• Follow safety policies and Code of Safe Practices.

Overview

TRC is currently hiring aDistribution Field Technician.This position will be working within our Power Distribution Engineering team and a part of our growing Power Sector.

Responsibilities

• Design and prepare independently, construction orders related to overhead, underground facilities associated with electric distribution systems applying prescribed standards, guides, specifications and procedures.
• Apply the client's standards, guidelines, specifications, practices and procedures or appropriate industry standards in preparing layouts of overhead and/or underground electric distribution facilities.
• Prepare design sketches, cost estimates, bill of materials and any other required documents and reports for construction and maintenance projects.
• Assist in the performance of load studies on distribution transformers, investigate circuit overloads and voltage complaints to determine necessary corrective action.
• Contact landowners and/or their agents, to negotiate agreement of Rights of Way (easements) for proposed utility equipment. Obtain necessary contact and tax map information for easement processing.
• Prepare and submit required reports and correspondence.
• Assist in the acquisition of field data.
• Assist in the gathering of information from field notes.
• Perform tasks such as digitizing, copying and scanning of drawings, prints and maps.
• Utilize client and company information systems to track and update design activities.
• Follow Code of Safe Practices as outlined in the company safety policies.

Compensation

In accordance with local law, the below salary range is applicable for the job and location associated with this requisition. Compensation will vary based upon experience, education, skill level, geographical location, and other compensable factors.

Employee may be eligible for participation in the Company's annual Discretionary Bonus Program which is contingent on Company, Business Segment, and Individual performance against Key Performance Indicators which vary by year and employee.

Salary Range

USD $21.00 - USD $25.00 /Hr.
