Job Summary

This position acts as a subject matter expert in a program or system role in a technical discipline among peers within a department. This position works in conjunction with other engineering disciplines as well as craft employees and is responsible for developing design and construction standards.

This is a Safety Sensitive position subject to mandatory pre‑employment and random drug testing.

Job Duties / Responsibilities

• Plan and conduct independent engineering work requiring judgment in the evaluation, selection, application, and adaptation of engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria.
• Devises new approaches to solving problems and works within a team environment to create and maintain material specifications, material standards, and processes in Utility Distribution.
• The current opening will span the areas of overhead and underground construction as well as line equipment and control implementation.
• Future duties may be in other portions of the Design Basis group related to items such as transformers, other distributed energy resources, interconnection issues, and engineering support.
• Represent Entergy as a technical expert within the industry.
• Represent Entergy Power Delivery in standards discussions and/or utility practices as the industry evolves.
• Work with consultants and equipment manufacturers and interface with departments on technical issues.
• Lead the development of System/ Power Delivery processes and procedures.
• Act as a change agent for achieving Power Delivery objectives.
• Provide guidance and coaching to other departments on engineering matters.

Minimum Education

Technical degree (2‑year Associate or 4‑year Bachelor’s) and/or years of operational experience in electric utilities commensurate with progression level (15 years for Dist Spec).

Minimum Experience

6 years with 4‑year Bachelor’s degree, 8 years with 2‑year associate degree, 10 years with supervisory experience, 15 years without degree.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Ability to work independently without day‑to‑day oversight.
• Ability to work within a geographically diverse team environment and lead small projects.
• Critical thinking.
• Ability to provide written reports supporting standards and the underlying philosophy.
• Good interpersonal skills along with strong written and oral communication skills.
• Good knowledge of Personal Computer operations and related software.
• Basic theory of electricity.
• Ability to interpret construction drawings.
• Ability to manage multiple activities and changing priorities.
• Ability to recognize opportunities for process improvement.
• Experience and expertise in the actual construction of line and component details – constructability of standards.
• Knowledge of electrical distribution material and construction practices.
• Demonstrable understanding of the application of NEC, NESC and/or other national codes and standards is a plus.
