Responsibilities

• Meet regularly with external/internal customers to discuss and determine specific requirements to provide service, negotiate facilities layout, point of service, and proposed service date using efficient and cost‑effective methods, while adhering to existing codes, standards, and policies.
• Conduct field investigations; evaluate possible service alternatives; determine appropriate standards and/or specifications; prepare accurate construction drawings; produce material and labor estimates; interpret customer survey plats; assist in engineering calculations, tables, layouts, studies, and reports.
• Communicate and/or negotiate right‑of‑way easements and/or permits; determine right‑of‑way clearing needs; prepare and secure appropriate right‑of‑way documents and drawings in accordance with Entergy Standards.
• Interpret and document the appropriate tariffs, policies, and procedures related to the Contribution in Aid of Construction (CIAC) process.
• Serve as the one‑point of contact for the customer during the design phase and as needed after the design package has been released for scheduling and construction.
• Communicate and coordinate assigned projects with all Entergy departments and appropriate personnel.
• Create, approve, and release project designs as authorized.
• Provide training, guidance, mentorship, and oversight to less experienced designers and helpers.
• Follow and adhere to all Entergy safe work practices and policies, and participate in daily/monthly safety meetings.

Qualifications

• Must have one of the following field operations or educational credentials:
  • 1 year of field operations experience (Transmission Line or Substation, Distribution Line or Service, Field Metering)
  • Completion of Entergy’s Technical Personal Development Program (TPDP)
  • 2‑year Technical Associate Degree in a related field from an accredited school
  • At least 60 college credit hours toward a 4‑year degree in a related field from an accredited school
• Willing and able to communicate effectively with customers, department management, co‑workers, and other groups through written and oral skills.
• Within six months after employment, know and understand Entergy’s safety rules and be able to administer first‑aid/CPR as approved.
• Must complete Designer Training Modules within 18 months.
• Must maintain a valid driver’s license.
• Must meet all qualifications of a Distribution Designer and either:
  • Have four years of field operations experience and at least two years as a Distribution Designer;
  • Be qualified and have worked three years as a Distribution Designer;
  • Hold a 2‑year Technical Associate Degree or 60 credit hours and have worked two years as a Distribution Designer;
  • Hold a 4‑year Technical Degree and have worked one year as a Distribution Designer.
• Possess thorough knowledge of engineering and design principles, company standards, applicable electrical codes, and related company processes and policies.
