Job summary

The University of Southern Mississippi is currently accepting applications for the position of Distribution Specialist. Location Hattiesburg, MS. Division Receiving and Warehousing. Full-time staff role with a starting hourly pay of 11.85.

Distribution Specialists are needed to properly and efficiently handle materials shipping to and from the University. They are responsible for receiving shipments, maintaining the warehouse, handling surplus property, and assisting in property disposal.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED with at least three months experience in a warehouse atmosphere.
  • Proficient in tracking shipments and documentation processes.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word.

Responsibilities

  • Receives shipments, verifying the number of packages received, noting the condition of packages received, and collecting the proper documentation.
  • Enters packages received and delivered into the Track-pad system, obtains signatures as required, and notes any damage or discrepancies.
  • Performs duties such as unloading and loading trucks for delivery, sorting items for delivery to departments, delivering items promptly, and obtaining signatures as required.
  • Accepts and documents surplus items received by organizing and storing surplus by categories, and maintaining surplus records in the surplus property database.
  • Processes requests for items to be shipped out and maintains proper documentation.
  • Operates vehicles such as vans, trucks, forklifts, and pallet jacks. Maintains a neat and orderly warehouse. Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Excellent verbal and social skills. Ability to operate a computer, and possess a basic knowledge ofMicrosoft Excel and Word.
Preferred Qualifications

Associates Degree from an accredited college.
