Job summary

NY STATE ELECTRIC & GAS CORP is seeking a Distribution Planning professional to perform comprehensive distribution studies such as voltage, thermal, N-1, and power factor assessments, and to collaborate with internal teams on Battery Storage and Smart Grids initiatives.

The role focuses on analyzing PV and battery storage interconnections, applying distribution criteria, and leveraging GIS, power flow, and protection analysis tools to improve planning accuracy and efficiency.

Qualifications

• BSEE with power system concentration preferred.
• 0-2 years of industry experience.
• Familiarity with regulatory standards (NERC, NPCC, ISO, PUC).
• Knowledge of planning, operations and engineering design.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate on distribution studies including voltage, thermal, N-1 and power factor assessments.
• Support Non-Wires Alternative and Smart Grids initiatives for grid automation.
• Analyze DER and battery storage interconnections and new load connections.
• Develop distribution planning tools using GIS, power flow, and protection analysis.
• Assist during storm restoration efforts.
