Job summary

Avangrid is seeking a Distribution Planning Engineer (All Levels) in Rochester NY to join its Network Planning team. The role collaborates on distribution studies and DER interconnections, applying voltage, thermal, N-1, and power factor assessments.

You will mentor engineers, liaise with internal teams and external contractors, and participate in storm response. Requires a BSEE and 2–15 years of relevant experience; CYME/PSSE/ASPEN skills preferred.

Qualifications

• BSEE required; advanced degrees or certifications (MSEE, PE) considered.
• Ideal candidates have 2–15 years of industry experience.
• Knowledge of distribution planning tools and engineering practices.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate on distribution studies including voltage, thermal, N-1, and power factor assessments.
• Analyze DER distribution system interconnections and new load interconnections at multiple voltage levels.
• Apply distribution criteria and identify deficiencies in the system.
• Recommend Distribution Automation devices and develop compliant designs.
• Support Distribution Resiliency criteria and design improvements.
• Innovate to increase precision and efficiency of Distribution Planning.
• Develop understanding of tools like GIS (ArcFM), SAP, Load Data systems.
• Mentor and lead team to advance business needs.
• Collaborate with internal teams and industry peers; assist during storm restoration.
