Distribution Mechanic II/Welder Journeymen

Summary

This full-time hourly position reports to the Distribution Supervisor in Boston, MA. It involves performing a variety of mechanical assignments requiring advanced knowledge in the field. The role is part of the IUOE, Local 877 bargaining unit, with two vacancies available.

Responsibilities

1. All activities covered under Mechanic 3.
2. Perform welding and burning operations.
3. Shop and field repair of carbon steel piping according to ASME B31.1 standards; welds must pass X-ray examination.
4. Read and interpret blueprints (SR drawings).
5. Understand properties of steam thoroughly.
6. Locate system manholes and MLVS.
7. Understand repair and operation principles for pumps, valves, PRVS, traps, piping, expansion joints, and anchors.
8. Proficient pipefitting skills.
9. Assist in training Mechanic 2s and Welders.
10. Provide assistance as needed.
11. Perform other related duties.

Qualifications and Experience

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Valid MA driver’s license (minimum Class D) with a safe driving record.
• MA Journeyman Pipefitter’s License.
• Current welders’ qualification (WPQ) maintained.
• Ability to follow DOT regulations when required.

Physical Requirements

• Wear respirators (half face or PAPR) as necessary.
• Lift and operate machinery/tools weighing up to 50 pounds unassisted.
• Work in confined spaces.
• Climb ladders and stairs.
• Work in all weather conditions, indoors and outdoors.
• Work in hot environments.
