Qualifications

  • Enrolled at an accredited college or university to obtain a bachelor's degree in engineering.
  • Required courses: Statics, Material Science, and Structural Analysis.
  • Preferred: Soil Mechanics, Steel Design, and Concrete Design.

Responsibilities

  • Assist engineers and project managers with day-to-day project tasks for successful project delivery.
  • Prepare Specification Packages and distribution line drawings.
  • Analyze existing and proposed structures for codes, standards, and specifications.
  • Perform Electrical Clearance checks and calculations.
  • Coordinate permits for Railroads, Roadways, and Environmental Crossings.
  • Apply engineering principles to assist in design of Power Delivery projects.
  • Demonstrate attention to detail and strong written/verbal communication.
  • Follow established processes to perform complex tasks.

Job description

GAI is seeking a Distribution Line Intern to join our Power Delivery Team. Required skills include critical thinking, problem solving, organization, team-focus, and eagerness to apply learned engineering principles to solve real life problems. Applicants should possess developed technical, communication, and computer skills. This position will be responsible for assisting a team of engineers and project managers with distribution design.
This is a temporary position with a three-month duration. The successful candidate must be able to work out of the Orlando, FL office.
Job Responsibilities

  • Assist engineers and project managers with day-to-day project tasks as required for successful project delivery. Tasks may include:
  • Preparation of Specification Packages.
  • Preparation of distribution line drawings.
  • Analysis of existing and proposed structures regarding Client and other required codes, standards, and specifications.
  • Performance of Electrical Clearance checks and calculations.
  • Coordination and development of permits for Railroads, Roadways, and Environmental Crossings.
  • Apply engineering principles to assist in the design of Power Delivery Projects.
  • Demonstrate attention detail.
  • Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Perform complex tasks typically following established processes.
Direction Received
  • Intern will receive direction from lead engineers and project managers to complete day-to-day tasks.
Experience
  • This is an entry level position and no experience required.
Education And Training
  • Applicant must be enrolled at an accredited college or university to obtain a bachelor's degree in engineering, preferably civil engineering.
  • Required classes: Statics, Material Science, and Structural Analysis.
  • Preferred classes: Soil Mechanics, Steel Design, and Concrete Design.
Communication Skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical reports and procedures, and governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports and other business correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from other staff members.
Mathematical Skills
  • Required mathematical skills are commensurate with the technical or engineering discipline practiced (e.g., engineering calculations, design, etc.).
Computer Skills
  • Demonstrate in-depth understanding of basic computer systems and software packages. Must be willing to learn software that is specific to Power Delivery Industry.
