Job summary

NV5, Inc. in San Diego, CA, is seeking a Distribution Engineer III/IV to support our Transmission & Distribution electrical design group. This hybrid role requires 4 days in office and 1 day remote, and is based in NV5’s San Diego office.

As a Distribution Engineer, you will contribute to projects delivering electrical design, substation solutions and related construction documents, acting as lead engineer or technical project manager as needed, coordinating with survey, design and civil teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience.
• MS Degree in relevant field is preferred.
• Must be familiar with and up to date with industry codes and standards (e.g., GO95, NESC, IEEE, ASCE).
• 8+ years’ experience in consulting engineering or utility design, Civil or Electrical Engineering
• Excellent knowledge of software used for design, modeling and calculations including PLS-CADD for electrical roles.

Responsibilities

• Follow budgets and schedules; identify departures or issues early to meet client expectations for technical excellence, budget and schedule.
• Act as lead engineer on projects or as technical project manager with decision-making authority.
• Perform work involving plans, surveys, structures, or equipment; contribute to project teams and make major design recommendations.
• Coordinate all design work with survey, design, engineering, and civil teams.
• Design, manage, and assist in production of construction documents including plans, specifications, calculations, and quantity takeoffs.
• Provide QA checks on drawings and calculations before release.
• Interpret and apply client, company, and industry standards as needed.

• Analyze and solve construction and operational problems.
• Assist in proposals for new work via scope and fee development.

Overview

Distribution Engineer III/IV - San Diego, CA (Hybrid 4x in office /1x remote)

As our Distribution Engineer, you will support our Transmission & Distribution electrical design group. You will contribute to teams in the delivery of mechanical systems, electrical systems and substation solutions through planning, engineering, and design. Our Engineers are responsive, proactive, solutions-oriented professionals, working collaboratively within a team environment.

This position is based in NV5’s San Diego, CA office.

Responsibilities

• Follow and be responsive to budgets and schedules; identify departures or issues early to meet client expectations for technical excellence, budget and schedule
• Acting as the lead engineer on projects or technical project manager. Making important decisions and executing work without the need of oversight.
• Perform work that involves conventional types of plans, investigations, surveys, structures, or equipment. Will be assigned to project teams and may make major design recommendations
• Coordinate all design work with other team disciplines (survey, design, engineering, civil)
• Design, manage, and assist in production of construction documents, including plans, specifications, calculations, and quantity takeoffs
• Provide quality assurance checks on drawing packages and calculations prepared by others prior to release.
• Interpret and apply client, company, and industry standards as needed
• Demonstrate proficient knowledge of appropriate local codes and industry standards

The pay range for this California position is $145,000- $175,000 annual salary; however, base pay offered may be higher or lower depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience of the candidate. Restricted stock units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered.
