Job summary

Leidos is seeking an engineer to perform design tasks for electric utility projects in New Jersey. You will develop work packages using GIS/WMS tools and manage scope, schedule, and budgets while coordinating with clients and field teams.

The role requires 2+ years of relevant experience, NESC proficiency, and strong communication skills. Travel to local sites and collaboration with Leidos project teams are expected.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of relevant engineering experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred; alternatives may be considered.
  • Experience with the National Electric Safety Code (NESC).
  • Experience with design calculations (guying, cable pulling, protective devices, demand and fault calculations).
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Travel to local or regional client sites may be required.
  • Experience with BOM, CIAC, and cost estimates is advantageous.
  • Experience with design tools like Pole Foreman, Pull Planner, and Katapult is advantageous.
  • Experience with work-management and job-estimating software is advantageous.

  • Develop large design packages for complex cable/conduit projects in dense urban environments.
  • Develop work permits, easements, and right-of-way applications.
  • Visit local or regional customer sites to collect field data.

Job description

  • Perform design engineering for Leidos electric utility customers
  • Develop work packages for overhead, underground, URD, and Make Ready projects using customer GIS and WMS systems
  • Manage the scope, schedule, and budget of assigned work
  • Perform functional tasks, planning, and customer follow-up
  • Analyze assigned work scope and maintain schedule adherence to advocate client priorities
  • Initiate continuous workflow-process improvements to drive efficiency and quality in client design deliverables
  • Coordinate conflicting utilities and field engineering design requirements
  • Assess and develop large design packages for complex cable/conduit projects in dense urban environments
  • Develop work permits, easements, and right-of-way applications
  • Work in field and office settings
  • Visit local or regional customer sites to collect field data for work packages
  • Work directly with clients to maintain high-quality project delivery
Requirements
  • 2+ years of prior relevant experience required
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial engineering preferred; additional relevant experience/certifications may be considered in lieu of a bachelor's degree
  • Experience and demonstrated proficiency with the National Electric Safety Code (NESC)
  • Prior experience with structural analysis, guying calculations, cable pulling calculations, coordination of protective devices, and electric demand and fault-current calculations
  • Reliable personal transportation required for local or regional customer-related travel
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Experience providing estimated costs, developing a bill of materials (BOM), and calculating CIAC is advantageous
  • Experience with design tools such as Pole Foreman, Pull Planner, and Katapult is advantageous
  • Experience with work-management and job-estimating software is advantageous
