Job summary

Leidos is seeking a Distribution Engineer & Designer in Michigan to perform design engineering for electric utility customers, ensuring high-quality deliverables. You will develop work packages using GIS and WMS tools, manage scope and schedules, and review designs with clients.

The role requires 2+ years of experience in electric distribution design, a relevant Bachelor’s degree, and strong communication skills. Field data collection may be required.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of relevant experience in design engineering for electric utility projects.
• Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial engineering preferred.
• Experience with electric distribution design for utility or consulting firms.
• Knowledge of the National Electric Safety Code (NESC).
• Experience with structural analysis, guying calculations, cable pulling calculations, coordination of protective devices, and fault current calculations.
• Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

Job Summary

Distribution Engineer & Designer in Michigan responsible for performing design engineering for electric utility customers and ensuring high‑quality client deliverables.

Responsibilities

• Perform design engineering for Leidos electric utility customers.
• Develop work packages for OH, UG, URD, Make‑Ready, and Street Light projects using customer GIS and WMS systems such as DDS, GDT, GE Smallworld, Bentley Expert Designer, and Maximo.
• Manage the scope, schedule, and budget of work assigned.
• Use design tools such as Pole Foreman, SOCKET, Spida‑Calc, DDS.
• Review engineering design packages with clients.
• Perform functional tasks, planning, and customer follow‑up.
• Analyze the scope of work and maintain schedule adherence to advocate client priorities.
• Coordinate conflicting utilities and other field engineering design requirements; develop large design packages for complex cable/conduit projects in dense urban environments, work permit development, easements, and ROW applications.
• Comfortable in both field and office settings, including customer‑site visits to collect field data that assists in developing work packages.

What Sets You Apart

• 2+ years of prior relevant experience.
• Bachelor's Degree (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial preferred); additional relevant experience or certifications may be considered in lieu of a bachelor's degree.
• Relevant experience working directly with an electric utility or electric utility consulting company performing design engineering for electric distribution.
• Knowledge and demonstrated proficiency with the National Electric Safety Code (NESC).
• Prior knowledge of structural analysis, guying calculations, cable pulling calculations, coordination of protective devices, and electric demand and fault current calculations.
• Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

• Providing estimated costs, development of a BOM, calculating the CIAC.
• MicroStation – performing Electrical Distribution design.
• Work management software and job estimating software.
• CAD tools.

Pay Range

$59,150.00 - $106,925.00
