Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is hiring for a distribution design engineer in New Jersey with hybrid work options. You will develop construction sketches and work packages for 4 kV through 38 kV systems, perform field work, and support project scoping and client communications.

The role requires 6+ years in electric utility distribution, a design-related degree, and proficiency in AutoCAD/ArcGIS and industry codes. Strong leadership and communication are essential for success in this position.

Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in design-related field or 4-year non-engineering degree is required.
  • 6+ years of experience with electric utility distribution or equivalent review experience.
  • Knowledgeable in physical distribution design methods and their application.
  • Familiar with codes, standards and distribution software including AutoCAD, ArcGIS, PoleForeman.
  • Familiar with design codes and standards such as NESC, NEC, ANSI, IEEE, GIS/GWD.
  • Experience with complex overhead and underground distribution projects (120/208V through 38 kV).
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Able to lead a project team.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and review construction sketches and work packages for distribution facilities.
  • Support preliminary project scoping and field work as needed.
  • Support maintenance and recapitalization of distribution components.
  • Plan modifications and oversee complex design tasks.
  • Provide construction support and client communication.
  • Coordinate with project teams and review work.

Job description

This position allows for a hybrid work schedule with a mix of work spent in office and working remote from home.

  • Prepare/Review construction sketches and work packages for:
    • Overhead and underground distribution facilities (4 KV through 38 KV)
    • Pole loading analyses
    • Voltage drop and flicker calculations
    • Cable pulling
    • Bill of material
    • Cost estimates
    • Joint use coordination
    • Traffic control plans and/or permit drawings
  • Support preliminary project scoping.
  • Perform field work, when necessary.
  • Support maintenance and recapitalization of distribution components.
  • Plan modifications to the system as well as designing and overseeing complex tasks.
  • Provide construction support, when necessary.
  • Conduct client communication and interaction, when necessary.

Essential Skills And Experience
  • This position requires an Associate's degree in a design-related degree, or a 4 year non-engineering degree.
  • 6 or more years of experience with electric utility distribution or relevant experience to be able to review work by others.
  • Knowledgeable in physical distribution design methods and their application.
  • Knowledgeable in applicable codes, standards, and distribution software programs including AutoCAD, ArcGIS, PoleForeman, etc.
  • Familiarity with design codes and standards such as NESC, NEC, ANSI, IEEE, GIS/GWD.

Valued But Not Required Skills And Experience
  • Experience in utility distribution inspections and/or construction.
  • Familiarity with various distribution design/analysis software.
  • Familiarity with GIS software.

Compensation Range

$64,817 - $93,201
