Distribution Design Senior Manager - Pennsylvania

Our Utility Services team partners with utility and communication companies in various engineering and construction operations, including joint use pole attachment programs, distribution engineering design projects, and grid modernization programs.

This position reports to the Director of Distribution and Joint Use Services and manages the operational control of multiple electrical distribution design programs for utility clients. Responsibilities include tracking deliverables, developing management strategies, performance reporting, overseeing the distribution design process, preparing client proposals, issuing notices, billing, resolving compliance issues, and making presentations to senior leadership.

The role also involves work coordination, evaluating priorities, mentoring departmental leadership, managing client agreements, analyzing network reliability, supporting overhead and underground distribution design, and utilizing enterprise resource planning software for data analytics and reporting.

The ideal candidate is a high-performing, analytical self-starter with excellent leadership, communication, and customer service skills, capable of establishing effective working relationships. Our culture emphasizes safety, communication, accountability, professionalism, integrity, and respect.

This is a REMOTE position, with candidates residing in Pennsylvania being preferred.

Responsibilities include:
  1. Managing operations of multiple electric distribution engineering and design teams to ensure project delivery within schedule and budget.
  2. Leading engineering, design, and construction functions within assigned regions or projects.
  3. Applying understanding of safety standards, client standards, and municipal guidelines to manage teams effectively.
  4. Managing regional productivity and financial budgets, reporting variances to management.
  5. Ensuring uniform approaches to safety, design, technology use, and invoicing across teams.
  6. Supporting client onboarding, contract negotiations, and business growth.
  7. Developing customer proposals with detailed scope, schedule, and budget.
  8. Interfacing with clients and contractors to ensure project scope adherence and managing change orders.
  9. Communicating strategic initiatives and risks to management.
  10. Providing personnel training, mentorship, coaching, and conducting performance evaluations.
  11. Supporting fieldwork during design, construction, and quality assurance phases.
  12. Advocating for safety and providing technical oversight for project teams.
  13. Serving as client liaison and collaborating on broad issues.
  14. Overseeing existing projects and supporting business development activities.
  15. Tracking project scope, schedule, budget, and quality metrics.
  16. Coordinating work assignments, resource management, and regional development.
  17. Interpreting policies, training staff, recruiting, and managing performance appraisals.
  18. Serving as a technical advisor and promoting quality initiatives.
  19. Developing tools and workflows to enhance efficiency.
  20. Travel may be required, up to 20% overnight or extended travel.
Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field with 7+ years of relevant experience in electric distribution design, working with utilities or consulting firms.
  • Proven supervisory and project management skills.
  • Experience managing multiple teams across regions and growing business units.
  • Knowledge of electrical distribution assets, safety standards, and construction practices.
  • Financial management skills including budgeting and reporting.
  • Experience with modeling software (e.g., pole loading tools, AutoCAD) and utility software (e.g., NJUNS, IkeGPS).
  • Excellent negotiation, relationship-building, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and ability to interpret engineering drawings.
  • Valid driver’s license and dependable transportation.
  • Ability to pass drug and alcohol testing as per regulations.
Qualifications:
  • Master’s Degree in Engineering or Business Administration (preferred).
  • Professional Engineering (PE) License.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification.
