Job summary

Insight Global is seeking a Distribution Design Engineer for a major energy industry client in North Carolina. The role involves developing design and construction work packages for electrical distribution systems from 4kV to 138kV, focusing on overhead and underground assets and programmatic workloads.

You will perform engineering calculations, prepare permitting documents, support construction activities, and conduct outage root-cause analyses, ensuring safety, design quality, and compliance

Qualifications

• B.S. in Engineering from ABET-accredited institution.
• Experience with CAD tools.
• Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication.

Responsibilities

• Develop design and construction work packages for electrical distribution systems from 4kV through 138kV.
• Provide engineering support during construction and post-construction reviews.
• Perform engineering calculations including pole loading, conductor sag/tension, voltage drop and flicker.
• Prepare permitting documents for AHJs and ensure safety/quality standards.

Job description

Insight Global is looking for a Distribution Design Engineer for one of our large engineering consulting firms. This engineer will aide in the upgrades of a major energy providers distribution grid.

• Develop design and construction work packages for electrical overhead and underground distribution systems operating from 4kV through 138kV mostly associated with programmatic work such as overloaded transformers, inspection and maintenance, joint use, and inspection reports.
• Comply with the company and Client Safety requirements as well as design and quality expectations.
• Perform engineering calculations such as structural analysis for wood pole loading, guying calculations, specifying conductor sags and tensions for recommended spans, and calculation of voltage drop and flicker.
• Develop permitting documents for different AHJ's.
• Provide engineering support during construction, including post-construction reviews to ensure all applicable engineering and construction standards have been met.
• Conduct root cause analysis of outages and mitigation using engineering principles and design.

Required Skills and Experiences:

• Bachelor of Science in Engineering discipline (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial) from an ABET accredited institution
• Computer Aided Design (CAD) tools experience
• Ability to demonstrate strong written, verbal and interpersonal communications skills

Plusses:

• Construction background, design work, civil engineering, electrical experience and programming experience
• Work Management Systems (WMS) SAP B1 and/or SAGE Experience
• Experience with distribution design tools such as BOUD, Pole Foreman, SOCKET, Spida-Calc or similar
