Job Summary
The Distribution Center Manager provides leadership, direction, and accountability for the overall operation of the F&H of the Carolinas Distribution Center. This position is responsible for ensuring safe accurate, efficient, and cost-effective receiving, warehousing, inventory movement, order fulfillment, shipping, equipment repair, facility operations, and related Distribution Center activities to meet Company Financial and Operational targets, Safety in the DC, and Federal, State, and Local regulations.
The Distribution Center Manager develops and leads a high performing Team, establishes clear expectations, monitors operational and financial performance, and continuously identifies opportunities to improve safety, productivity, inventory accuracy, service, and efficiency.This position works collaboratively with Store Teams, Corporate Teams, vendors, transportation providers, and other business partners to ensure the Distribution Center effectively supports the Company’s retail operations and growth.
The Distribution center Manager is expected to reinforce Gold Standards of Operational Excellence, while fostering a culture of safety, teamwork, and exceptional service in support of our commitment to being the Premier Retailer in the markets we serve.
Essential Functions
- Direct and oversee receiving, warehousing, inventory movement, order fulfillment, shipping, and related Distribution Center operations to ensure safe, accurate, timely, and efficient service to the Company’s retail locations.
- Direct the daily workflow of assigned Teams, including staffing, scheduling, work assignments, workload prioritization, and allocation of resources. Anticipate seasonal demands, peak delivery periods, promoting activity and changing to meet operational needs and adjust resources accordingly.
- Ensure timely and accurate order fulfillment, transfers, and deliveries. Verify outgoing shipments meet Company quality and accuracy standards and that shipping, transfer, and order documentation is complete and accurate.
- Oversee Company receiving, storage, transfer, and inventory movement processes to promote inventory accuracy, proper product handling, accountability, and accurate records throughout the Distribution Center.
- Partner with Store Teams and other areas of the Company to support inventory planning, transfers, deliveries, product movement, security system, and timely resolution of Distribution Center-related operational needs.
- Oversee and resolve issues involving damaged merchandise, inbound, and outbound shipments, delayed or disrupted deliveries, inventory discrepancies, and operational or system-related issues. Coordinate with Store Teams, vendors, carriers, and appropriate internal departments to achieve timely resolution and minimize operational and financial impact.
- Manage defective merchandise and return-to-vendor operations. Ensure merchandise is properly identified, documented, organized, processed, and returned in a timely manner in appropriate controls to support inventory accuracy, accountability, and recovery of applicable vendor credits.
- Manage the equipment repair function supporting the stores serviced through the Distribution Center. Ensure appropriate parts inventory levels are maintained, repairs are completed accurately and within established timelines, and repaired equipment is returned to the stores promptly. Maintain effective processes for tracking repair status, parts usage, turnaround times, and outstanding equipment.
- Optimize warehouse layout, storage practices, product flow, and space utilization to support safe, efficient, organized, and scalable Distribution Center operations. Optimize warehouse layout and space utilization.
- Ensure equipment, tools, supplies, and resources necessary for Distribution Center operations are available, appropriately maintained, safe, and in good working condition. Coordinate acquisition or replacement of equipment as approved or directed by Chief Financial Officer.
- Provide leadership and accountability for maintaining a safe working environment and ensuring adherence to Company safety policies, procedures, training requirements, and applicable workplace safety requirements. Maintain required safety and operational records.
- Lead and ensure completion of required safety and operational inspections of required safety and operational inspections of Distribution Center equipment and designated facility areas are properly reported, documented, and appropriately addressed.
- Establish, lead, and maintain an active Distribution Center Safety Committee focused on identifying workplace hazards, reviewing safety concerns and trends promoting safe work practices, and developing proactive measures to reduce workplace injuries and incidents. Ensure appropriate follow-up and accountability for identified corrective actions.
- Maintain Distribution Center operations in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local requirements, and Company policies, including applicable workplace safety, transportation, environmental, facility, and operational requirements. Handles discipline and terminations with Human Resources assistance according to Company policies.
- Establish, maintain, and consistently reinforce the Company’s Gold Standard of Cleanliness throughout all areas of the Distribution Center. Ensure warehouse, receiving, shipping, equipment repair, office, Team Member, exterior, and other work areas are maintained in a clean, organized, and safe, and professional condition.
- Coordinate and oversee outside service providers supporting Distribution Center and facility operations, including trash compactor services, transportation providers, pest-control services, utilities, and other facility-related venders. Monitor service performance, address issues promptly, and minimize disruptions to operations.
- Support and oversee facility security, access-control practices, emergency preparedness, severe-weather procedures, evacuation processes, and other measures designed to protect Team Members, Company Assets, inventory, and the facility.
- Establish, monitor, analyze, and manage key performance indicators (KPIs) for Distribution Center operations, identify trends and opportunities and implement viable process improvements that increase productivity, accuracy, efficiency, service, safety, and operational effectiveness.
- Develop, prepare, manage, and monitor the Distribution Center’s annual operating budget in partnership with the Chief Financial Officer. Monitor expenditures, manage resources, responsibly, identify and address significant variances, and maintain appropriate financial controls. Resolve issues related to damaged goods, inbound and outbound, or delayed systems.
- Complete and oversee assigned month end responsibilities accurately and within established deadlines, maintain appropriate records and controls to support the accuracy of financial information.
- Proactively identify and evaluate cost-saving and productivity opportunities through Distribution Center operations while maintaining established standards for safety, quality, accuracy, service, and operational effectiveness. Recommend and implement approved initiatives and monitor results.
- Partner with Human Resources and Company leadership in recruiting, selecting, onboarding, training, developing, and retaining qualified Team Members Ensure required licenses, certifications, safety training, and other applicable training requirements are maintained.
- Ensure Team Members are consistently informed regarding Company policies, procedures, safety requirements, rules and regulations, operational expectations, training objectives, and other information necessary to successfully perform responsibilities.
- Establish clear performance expectations and provide regular, timely constrictive coaching, feedback, and recognition, and development.
- Address performance and conduct concerns appropriately and administer corrective action and terminations in partnership with Human Resources and in accordance with company policies and applicable requirements.
- Foster a culture of Teamwork, safety, accountability, continuous improvement, exceptional service, and operational excellence.
- Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned in support of the Company’s operation needs and business objectives.

Education and Experience
- High School diploma or equivalent required, bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Three (3) + years of experience in Warehouse/Distribution Management required.
- Demonstrated experience leading Team Members, managing operational performance, and driving process improvement.
Physical Requirements
- Maintain a valid driver’s license with the ability to travel via car, air travel, and Farm & Home Supply vehicle to various locations and all Farm & home Supply locations for meetings, events, and training, etc.
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds at a time.
- Ability to regularly move throughout a large Distribution Center, warehouse, office, loading, receiving, shipping, and exterior work environment.
- Ability to remain in a stationary position and work at a computer or workstation for extended periods of time.
- Ability to visually observe warehouse operations, equipment inventory, work areas, safety conditions, and operational activities.
- Ability to occasionally bend, stoop, reach, crouch, climb stairs, and access various areas of the Distribution Center as necessary to oversee operations.
- Ability to handle documents, operate office equipment, and use applicable technology and communication devices.
- Ability to perform other physical activities that are job-related and necessary to oversee Distribution Center operations safely and effectively.
Work Schedule
Full-Time Management position. The Distribution Center Manager must maintain a work schedule necessary to effectively oversee the Distribution Center operations and meet business needs. The Position may require early mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, extended hours, or schedule adjustments during peak periods, inventories, significant operational events, emergencies, or other business needs. Regular, punctual, and reliable attendance and the ability to respond appropriately to operational needs are essential to this position.
