Grand Valley State University in Allendale, MI seeks the Stuart B. and Barbara Padnos Distinguished Artist-In-Residence to inspire students in Visual and Media Arts through lectures, studio demonstrations, and mentorship.

The position supports teaching focused on technique, entrepreneurship, marketing, and career preparation. Responsibilities include 80 hours of student engagement per academic year, on-campus activity, and completing a designated project by June 30, 2028, with a workspace,

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in a discipline reflected by the Department of Visual & Media Arts
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Demonstrated the ability to work effectively with students in a mentorship/teaching context

Responsibilities

• Complete 80 working hours of curricular and co-curricular student engagement activities per academic year
• Conduct lectures, seminars, or workshops to support the curriculum
• Teach studio demonstrations and technique instruction
• Provide career coaching and professional guidance
• Teach the business of being an artist/designer/filmmaker/photographer
• Be available on campus throughout the academic year
• Complete the selected project by June 30, 2028
• Maintain high levels of creative/scholarly activity and professional visibility
• Projects involving the local community and students encouraged
