Job summary

The Westfield Area YMCA Flyers Track Club is seeking a part-time Distance Coach for the Fall Season (Sept 4–Oct 26). Schedule: Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at Oak Ridge Park in Clark, NJ.

The program serves nearly 700 athletes aged 7–15 with USATF certification; coaches with distance and cross country experience are encouraged. As a Track & Field Instructor you will organize, supervise and instruct athletes to learn basic sport skills aligned with YMCA values.

Qualifications

• Be at least 18 years of age.
• CPR for the Professional Rescuer and First Aid including EPI and Asthma certifications.
• Knowledge of Track & Field programs and related skills.
• Good communication skills to interact with children and parents.
• Good organizational skills.
• Ability to lift heavy equipment and conduct rigorous practices.
• Ability to lead and make decisions during safety emergencies.
• Present themselves as a leader at all times.
• Outgoing and enthusiastic attitude.

Responsibilities

• Deliver curriculum for different skill levels.
• Coach, supervise and operate a quality team by demonstrating YMCA values and member service.
• Communicate scheduling conflicts in advance.
• Communicate with supervisor regularly about the programs.
• Attend staff meetings.
• Provide and maintain a safe program environment at all times.
• Be responsible for the safety of all participants.
• Follow emergency procedures at all times.
• Demonstrate a mature, professional attitude in the workplace.
• React appropriately to emergencies.
• Uphold Risk Management Standards.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
