Job summary

Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District is seeking a Dispatcher - Transportation in Cypress, Texas. The role requires coordinating daily operations, field trips, and driver scheduling, with a focus on safety and customer service.

Starting immediately, the dispatcher will open buildings, manage communications, and ensure accurate records. This full-time position offers benefits and requires a Texas CDL with P and S endorsements and two years of school bus driving experience.

Qualifications

  • Must have a clear and valid Texas commercial driver’s license with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Ability to work under pressure and prioritize effectively while maintaining composure and responding in an appropriate manner where customer service skills are evident.
  • Effective and professional telephone, radio, and communication skills.
  • Ability to pass alcohol and drug tests, and annual physical.
  • Proficient in reading and understanding district policies and procedures.
  • Proficient map reading skills.
  • Minimum of two (2) years’ experience as a certified school bus driver preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Interact professionally with District/department personnel and community to ensure a positive customer experience.
  • Open building and prepare for daily operations (opening shift).
  • Receive and record driver and attendant absence calls.
  • Assign substitute drivers and attendants to routes and vacancies.
  • Answer and route internal and external calls.
  • Monitor two-way radio and GPS; assist off-route drivers using mapping software.
  • Coordinate field trips and emergency trips as needed.
  • Maintain logs, files, and reports related to dispatch operations.

  • Ability to read and understand documents including state/federal laws, district policy, and department procedures.
  • Ability to pass alcohol and drug tests, and annual physical.
  • Proficient map reading skills.
  • Proficient skills in operating a personal computer, including Microsoft Office applications.
  • Minimum of two (2) years’ experience as a certified school bus driver preferred.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

230days

SALARY/PAYGRADE:

$18.28/HS7

Salary (based on verifiable job-related experience) as set by the Board of Trustees for the school year.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Interact and communicate (verbally and written) in a professional manner with all District/department personnel and community members to ensure a positive customer experience.
  • Open building and prepare for the daily operations (opening shift).
  • Receive and record driver and attendant absence calls.
  • Assign substitute drivers and attendants to route and position vacancies.
  • Answer, record, and properly route internal and external telephone calls.
  • Monitor and respond to two-way radio/GPS communications; assist off-route/lost drivers using GPS and mapping software.
  • Monitor, record, and respond appropriately to emergency calls and situations.
  • Assist the Operations Supervisor with the field trip selection process; post, and/or assign emergency trips as needed; Coordinate with field trip data management specialist as needed.
  • Coordinate/communicate with sponsors, drivers, and attendants all necessary field trip information as needed prior to field trip date; Email sponsors per procedures.
  • Record, copy, file, and distribute route information, instructions, bulletins, notices, memos, and messages to drivers and attendants as directed.
  • Responsible for weekend on-call of all field trip drivers, coaches, caravans, and rental fleet. Also, weekend communication with trip sponsor, shop technician and CFPD as necessary.
  • Maintain all required physical and computerized logs, worksheets, files, and reports related to dispatch operations.
  • Organize vehicle key boards and mailboxes for department hourly employees as directed.
  • Assist administrators with inclement weather/school closure procedures and communications as needed.
  • Perform bus driving duties as required.
  • Regular and reliable attendance is an essential job function.

Maintain emotional control under stress. Clear speech. Work with frequent interruptions. Sit for prolonged periods of time. Early and late shift work with possibleirregular and prolonged hours.
