Description Summary
The Radio Dispatcher will monitor closed-circuit television camerasand alarm systems, dispatch Campus Police personnel, answertelephone calls, complete reports, and perform light typing andclerical duties. Duties may include the operation of a multipleline switchboard which is located within the B & C foyer mainentrance information desk. Duties and responsibilities of thisposition may change as the need arises.
Duties & Responsibilities
- At all times, maintain the confidentiality and integrity of allinformation, data reports, operations, and activities of thedepartment. Not to discuss any of the duties, investigations,assignments, or activities of the department with anyone outside ofthe department, except as instructed by the Chief of the departmentor college administration staff.
- Ensure all responses and requests from the collegestaff/faculty, students, and other agencies of the public arehandled in a prompt, courteous, efficient and professional mannerat all times and under all circumstances.
- Operate and respond to office, emergency, elevator and parkinglot telephones.
- Monitor fire alarms systems and dispatch police and/or firedepartment and off campus emergency personnel equipment whennecessary.
- Monitor video surveillances cameras, (CCTV) and dispatchofficers when necessary.
- Notify Campus Operations and Facilities of needed emergencyrepairs and inform shift supervisor.
- Maintain data required by federal law to compile statistics forthe Jeanne Clery Act and independently compile data and submitmonthly Uniform Crime Report (UCR) to the Illinois StatePolice.
- Brief on-coming shift personnel regarding any special events,occurrences or needs.
- Ensure requests for assistance or information from other lawenforcement agencies and other outside agencies are handledpromptly and professionally.
- Type and compile letters, memoranda’s, records, and periodicreports from copy to rough draft following standard procedures asto composition, most of which is confidential in nature.
- Input and access information from automated law enforcementsystems such as license and criminal history checks, transmissionlogs maintenance, daily logs, and other required documents. Trainnew communications personnel.
- Performs related duties as assigned by the Chief or ShiftSupervisor.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
The candidate must have a High school diploma or GED ; goodcommunication skills; ability to work under pressure; and goodtyping and computer skills; able to file accurately. Must be ableto pass LEADS certification test within the first three months ofemployment. The candidate will need to have a cooperative attitudeand be honest, and have well-groomed appearance. The candidate willbe required to successfully complete intensive criminal backgroundinvestigation.

Preferred Qualifications
- Bilingual in English/Spanish.
- Experience as a RadioOperator/Dispatcher.
- Excellent computer skills in Microsoft Word,Excel and Publisher.
