Job summary

Fisher-Titus Medical Care group is seeking a dispatcher/call taker for the NCEMS Communications Center in the United States. You will receive and dispatch emergency and non-emergency calls, assess situations, and coordinate internal and external resources with a focus on patient care and safety.

The role requires handling diverse calls, maintaining confidentiality under HIPAA, and collaborating with local police, fire, and Life Flight teams.

Qualifications

  • High School or better in General.
  • CPR certification preferred.
  • Ability to handle inbound calls and coordinate resources with critical thinking.

Responsibilities

  • Take inbound emergency and non-emergency calls and assess priority.
  • Coordinate appropriate internal and external resources for EMS.
  • Document transportation details in the CAD system.
  • Assign level of care for ambulance/ambulette transfers.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality per HIPAA and HIPAA guidelines.
  • Maintain relationships with Police, Fire, and Life Flight as needed.
  • Assist with mental health transports when required.

General Summary:

This employee performs a variety of skills in support of the NCEMS Communications Center; receives and dispatches emergency and non-emergency calls from the public EMS Personnel; participates in the work of a dispatcher/call taker and performs other duties as assigned.

Assist with mental health transports, as needed.

Essential Functions:
  • Demonstrates a customer focused attitude to serve clients of diverse backgrounds at all times.
  • Responsible for taking inbound calls, assessing and prioritizing the situation, and assigning and coordinating appropriate internal and external resources.
  • Manages both emergency and non-emergency calls using a high level of critical thinking and multi-tasking skills.
  • Completes required documentation needed to schedule ambulance and ambulette transfers.
  • Documents in the CAD system when required.
  • Assigns appropriate level of care of transportation based on the patient/client criteria.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality as per the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA).
  • Maintains critical working relationships with community resources including Police, Fire, Life Flight, Hazmat, and internally with the North Central EMS team.
