What You'll Do:

  • Temporarily act as a point of contact when supervisors are unavailable, to ensure operational efficiency.
  • Analyze workload and recommend adjustments to improve performance.
  • Proactively monitor field activity and adjust plans in real time.
  • Maintain customer relations.
  • Coordinate drivers, equipment, and schedules to ensure safe, on-time freight movement.
  • Monitor truck activity, resolve delays or issues, and ensure clear and professional communication with drivers and crews.
  • Maintain accurate dispatch records, reports, and system updates.
  • Ability to assess driver’s fit for duty.
  • Ensure compliance with DOT regulations, including permitting, and knowledge of hours of service.
  • Support team with administrative duties and coordination of tasks.
  • Assign vehicles and drivers for transport of freight according to factors such as length and purpose of trip, freight requirements, and preference of user.
  • Provide directions to drivers at specified times according to schedule; issue keys, record sheets, and credentials to drivers; may be required to inspect drivers' physical condition prior to dispatch.
  • Receive reports of accidents, delays, equipment breakdowns, and other operating or maintenance difficulties; report difficulties to supervisor and dispatch orders to maintain or restore service and schedules, often within severe time limitations.
  • Operate various radio, telephone, and computer systems to track freight and update work orders.
  • Review customer work orders to gather information for scheduling loads, contacting customers or shippers directly if necessary.
  • Confer with customers to expedite or locate missing, misrouted, delayed, or damaged freight; resolve conflicts and handles unusual or difficult customer complaints.
  • Coordinate projects requiring multiple methods of transportation; make arrangements for special hauls such as wide or heavy loads and hazardous materials.
  • Plan transportation routes by consulting maps to ensure clearance and load limits of roads, bridges, and overhead obstructions.
  • Check customer credit as necessary prior to committing work; make special shipping and billing arrangements according to company policies and procedures.
  • Maintain sales effort through telephone contact with customers and potential customers.
  • Order supplies, equipment, and material as needed and as authorized.

What We're Looking For:

Required Education, Experience and/or Abilities

  • An associates degree or equivalent with three to five (3-5) years of dispatching experience; or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be considered.
  • Proficiency in dispatching / DOT regulations.
  • Knowledge of commercial driving regulations regarding transportation and delivery of products, livestock, or equipment by tanker, semi- or full-trailer trucks, and specialized multi-axle trailers and truck/tractors.
  • Familiarity with liquid, dry, or gaseous cargoes of explosive, flammable, volatile, or otherwise dangerous material.
  • Familiarity with lifting and handling equipment such as, but not limited to, hydraulic or conventional cranes, forklifts, and oil field rig-up trucks.
  • Working knowledge of crude oil testing and measuring.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents written in English such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals, as well as the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Above-average interpersonal and conflict resolution skills, above-average written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to make independent decisions under pressure conditions.

Computer Skills

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications including Outlook, Excel and Microsoft Word software.

Additional Eligibility Qualifications

  • English language fluency, verbal and written.
  • Acceptable results of a pre-employment background check, credit check and drug/alcohol test.
