Job Details

The Communications Dispatchers are responsible for monitoring incoming emergency calls, non-emergency public safety, facilities, and critical infrastructure calls, operational security situational awareness, information sharing, and dispatching security, police, and facilities staff to respond to calls for service. They leverage advanced technologies for physical security, critical infrastructure/systems, and public safety tools, collecting and providing real-time situational awareness regarding risks, criminal acts, and emerging threats.

Dispatchers coordinate crisis communications, support operational security priorities, de-conflict emergency management situations, monitor critical infrastructure systems, and provide updates on ongoing incidents affecting Jefferson's operations. They work in high-stress, time-critical environments, assessing the validity and urgency of information and disseminating it promptly.

Responsibilities include receiving incoming emergency (8-1-1) and non-emergency calls, dispatching police, fire, and EMS units via a computer-aided dispatch system, and managing the Security Operations Center (SOC). They monitor multiple radio channels, operate CCTV and access control systems, and coordinate with emergency personnel during responses. They also participate in meetings, trainings, and exercises, and maintain records for operational metrics.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required

• Knowledge of security, emergency management, and communication technologies supporting SOC activities
• Understanding of law enforcement and fire/EMS terminology and protocols
• Ability to work under stress and make critical decisions
• Must achieve NIMS basic certifications within one year
• Experience with Motorola, VOIP, wireless radios, emergency alerting systems, social media, and other public safety tools
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

• Associates or Bachelor’s Degree preferred (Criminal Justice, Public Safety, Homeland Security), but not required
• High school diploma or GED required
• Previous dispatch or communications experience preferred
• Must complete APCO International dispatch and SOC training certification within 90 days
