Job summary

Travel Plaza Transportation, LLC is seeking a dispatcher to manage transportation movements on Oahu. You will assign vehicles and drivers, coordinate operations, and maintain logs for scheduled runs and fleet status.

Essential duties include monitoring the Saucon GPS system, dispatching on-call and emergency movements, and communicating with multiple departments to ensure on-time service. English is essential; Japanese skills are a plus.

Qualifications

• High School diploma.
• 1–2 years of work experience; travel/hospitality or related industry preferred.
• Must be able to speak, read and write in English; Japanese speaking ability preferred.
• Knowledge of the tour industry, tour movements, and Japanese culture/etiquette.
• Able to plan, organize, and assign the activities of the drivers.
• Accurate math skills including usage of 10-key calculator.
• Valid Hawaii driver's license with clean abstract.

Travel Plaza Transportation, LLC (TPT) has evolved into one of Hawaii's largest bus operators, with an extensive fleet of commercial vehicles, and a broad suite of transportation service offerings on Oahu. In 2019, we introduced a new fleet of vehicles, including electric buses. TPT is the first private transportation company to acquire electric buses in support of our island community and the rest of the global community to achieve environmental sustainability.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Receive, record, and distribute requests for transportation movements upon request by JTB Hawaii, Inc. Assign vehicles and jobs to drivers.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• 25% Coordinate activities of operators of motor coaches, mini buses, and trolleys to transport passengers according to schedule.
• 25% Maintain log of scheduled runs, number of vehicles, and names of drivers.
• 25% Review the Saucon GPS system monitor on a regular basis to track the fleet movements.
• 25% Record movements and locations of vehicles and drivers to inform other departments regarding current schedules and routes.
• 25% Receive telephone or radio reports of accidents, delays, equipment breakdowns, and other operating or maintenance difficulties.
• 25% Report difficulties and dispatch orders to other divisions/departments to maintain or restore service and schedules.
• 25% Dispatch extra vehicles and emergency crew to scene of accident or breakdown, providing location of incident.
• 25% Record calls and emergencies and report for all accidents.

SECONDARY FUNCTIONS

• Complete training in data input and two other shifts including E-shift, ME-shift, M-shift, L-Shift, with the least amount of supervision in trained areas.
• May assist with field and/or airport dispatching as needed.
• Perform other duties as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

• High School diploma.
• Must possess at least one (1) to two (2) years’ work experience. Travel/hospitality or related industry work experience preferred.
• Must be able to speak, read and write in English; Japanese speaking ability preferred.
• Possess knowledge of the tour industry, tour movements, and arrangements; have understanding of Japanese culture and etiquette.
• Able to plan, organize, and assign the activities of the drivers.
• Possess accurate math skills including usage of 10-key calculator, including able to compute rates, ratios, and percentages.
• Possess valid Hawaii driver’s license with clean abstract.

WORKING CONDITIONS

WORKING HOURS

• Full-time, up to 40 hours per week, Sunday to Saturday, or as deemed necessary. Shift work based on business needs.
• Regular attendance at the workplace is required.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

• Air-conditioned office area.
• Must be flexible to work at the airport or other venues as needed where conditions may vary.
• May be subject to varying weather conditions, but not limited to noise, pollution, dust, fumes and vehicle exhaust.

EQUIPMENT USED

Saucon GPS monitor, computer, facsimile, copier, telephones, two-way radios, cellular phones, and other general office equipment and machines.
