Job summary

GFL Environmental Inc. is seeking a Dispatch/Operations Assistant in Harrison, MI to schedule service, dispatch routes, and support driver check-ins. You will coordinate with multiple departments to resolve service issues and ensure accurate paperwork at day’s end.

This role requires strong communication, ability to multi-task, and proficiency with MS Office. Extended hours including weekends may be required. TRUX experience is a plus.

Qualifications

  • High school completion; post-secondary courses or diploma asset.
  • 1-2 years in transportation, dispatch or customer service.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Customer-focused with ability to multi-task and prioritize.
  • Proficient in MS Outlook, Excel, Word.
  • Willing to work extended hours including weekends.
  • Knowledge of TRUX is a plus or willing to learn TRUX.
  • Additional training in transportation/logistics or call center experience.

Responsibilities

  • Schedule service and satisfy customer needs for service changes. Ensure that service is completed in accordance with established policies.
  • Dispatch calls to routes based upon designated route and driver location.
  • Perform driver check-ins at day’s end to ensure complete and accurate paperwork completion.
  • Distribute, collect and review route sheets for proper days end data entry.
  • Coordinate with other departments to resolve service issues.
  • Interacts with customers, customer service, sales, and Operations staff reporting to Operations Manager.
  • Work with routing specialists to optimize routes.
  • Field incoming calls/emails from customers.
  • Trouble shoot and resolve potential delivery/pickup problems before they become issues.
  • Assist in determining daily driver staffing levels for optimal mix of responsiveness and productivity.
  • Record and document information from drivers and distribute to appropriate departments.
  • Communicate with maintenance shop personnel.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities And Competencies
  • Completion of high school. Post-secondary courses or diploma would be considered an asset.
  • 1-2 years in a transportation, dispatch or customer service role.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong customer focus.
  • Proven ability to multi-task & ability to prioritize tasks.
  • Proficient in MS Outlook, Excel, Word.
  • Knowledge of industry an asset.
  • Advanced skill level with software applications and word processing accuracy including adequate typing speed.
  • Required to work extended hours including occasional weekends.
  • Possess TRUX experience but not mandatory, if not possess desire and ability to learn TRUX system, needs to possess advanced computer skills.
  • Additional or specialized training in transportation, logistics, or similar area of study; customer service experience in a call center environment.
