Job summary

First Student in Binghamton, NY is hiring a Dispatcher to manage bus routes, schedules, and driver performance. You will ensure on-time service and act as the main communication link with major customers, while handling calls and coordinating resources.

Starting pay is $25.00–$28.00 per hour, with full-time hours Monday–Friday 6:00am–3:00pm. The role requires 3–5 years of experience, strong communication, and DOT compliance. Health benefits and retirement plans are available.

Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of experience in dispatching or related role.
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Basic knowledge of radio dispatch equipment.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work under time constraints.
  • Experience in terminal operations, dispatch, or driver roles is preferred.
  • Computer literate and proficient with basic office software.
  • Ability to obtain company paid CDL.
  • Subject to DOT drug testing per 49 CFR Part 40.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees all routes and scheduling of buses.
  • Counsels and coaches drivers and monitors.
  • Handles heavy phone and radio traffic.
  • Takes scheduling and driver complaints, reports to Operations Supervisor/Contract Manager.
  • Acts as primary liaison with major contracted customers.
  • May handle charter reservations, billing or driver payroll.
  • Provides solutions to drop-off and pickup problems.
  • Back-up driver duties or other clerical tasks as needed.
  • Completes assignment of special projects.
  • Assists with day-to-day operations supervision.

Dispatcher Responsibilities:

Dispatcher Experience and Skills Required:
  • 3-5 year's experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Basic knowledge of radio dispatch equipmen
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Ability to deliver under time constraints and deadlines
  • Previous terminal operations, dispatch, or driver experience
  • Computer literate
  • Ability to obtain company paid CDL
  • Subject to DOT drug testing and physical. DOT Regulation 49 CFR Part 40 does not authorize the use of Schedule I drugs, including marijuana, for any reason.
