Job summary

Responsibilities

  • Manage all radio transmissions and ensure the system is functioning properly.
  • Serve as the primary link between the Department of Campus Safety and local emergency response units.
  • Responsible for overall dispatch office management (supplies, forms, and manuals).
  • Prepare and ensure the daily activity log and distribute incident reports accurately.
  • Monitor, interact with, report on, and maintain knowledge of access control, mass notification, and CCTV systems.
  • Serve as a first-responder during campus emergencies (e.g., hurricane responses).
  • Other duties as assigned.

Summary

Campus Safety Dispatchers are responsible for receiving and responding to telephone and radio calls and dispatching staff to routine emergencies. Monitors all alarms and surveillance equipment and assists the public with information as needed.

Job Description

Essential duties and responsibilities:

  • Receive calls and dispatch appropriate personnel to respond.
  • Calls or alarms may originate by telephone call, personal request, radio, or through monitoring activity on the CCTV monitors.
  • Receive and distribute phone calls, e-mails, and pass-on information to the appropriate parties.
  • Manage all radio transmissions and ensure the system is functioning properly.
  • Responsible for all written communication and its accuracy.
  • Serves as the primary link between the Department of Campus Safety and local emergency response units.
  • Responsible for overall dispatch office management (i.e. supplies, forms, and operational manuals).
  • Responsible for preparing and ensuring the daily activity log (Morning Report) is submitted accurately and that the distribution of Incident Reports to selected administrators is completed accurately.
  • Responsible for monitoring, interacting, reporting, and having a working knowledge of all access control (C-Cure), Alert/Mass Communications (Connect Ed), and CCTV (Indigo Vision) systems.
  • Serve as a first-responder during campus emergencies, including hurricane responses.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Primary schedule is Wednesday 12am - 6am, Thursday 6pm - 6am, Friday 6pm - 6am, and Saturday 6pm - 6am. Flexibility to work weekends, overnights, and other shifts as required.

Required knowledge, skills, and abilities
  • Candidate should maintain high energy with a strong commitment to student success, enthusiasm, and desire to work with students.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel.
  • Strong intrapersonal communication skills, both verbal and non-verbal.
  • Ability to be creative and forward-thinking to anticipate the needs of those with whom this role interacts.
  • Strong ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously while maintaining a commitment to high-quality and positive results.
  • Strong leadership ability and demonstrated crisis management skills under stressful situations.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent or six months to one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license, clean driving record, and be permitted to drive in the state of Florida.
  • Must be willing and able to be certified in CPR/AED.
