Job summary

First Student is hiring a Dispatcher in Weymouth/Abington, MA. The role runs Monday through Friday, 6:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with about 55 hours weekly.

The dispatcher coordinates daily bus operations, ensures routes are covered, and supports drivers and monitors to keep service on time for Weymouth, Holbrook, Rockland and local private schools. Starting pay is $24.00–$26.00 per hour. CDL may be considered for higher pay.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Experience in dispatch, transportation, logistics, customer service, or terminal operations preferred.
  • DOT drug testing and safety requirements may apply.

Now Hiring a Dispatcher in Weymouth/Abington, MA Pay: $24.00-$26.00 per hour Schedule: Monday-Friday, 6:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. Hours: Approximately 55 hours per week At First Student, our Dispatchers reflect our commitment to safety, reliable service, and excellent customer care. The Dispatcher coordinates daily bus operations, ensures routes are covered and running on time, and provides frontline support to drivers and monitors. This position supports transportation operations serving Weymouth, Holbrook, and Rockland Public Schools, along with several private schools throughout the area.

Dispatcher Responsibilities
  • Oversee daily routes, schedules, and bus assignments
  • Coordinate driver and monitor coverage
  • Monitor route performance and respond to delays or service disruptions
  • Communicate route changes and operational updates to drivers and location leadership
  • Handle heavy telephone and radio traffic throughout the day
  • Receive and address scheduling concerns and driver questions
  • Serve as a primary communication contact for school districts and private-school customers
  • Counsel and coach drivers and monitors on operational expectations
  • Help resolve student pick-up and drop-off concerns
  • Maintain accurate dispatch logs, route records, and operational documentation
  • Assist with charter reservations, billing, driver payroll, or other administrative responsibilities as needed
  • Perform backup driving or miscellaneous clerical duties when qualified and needed
  • Assist with the supervision of daily transportation operations
  • Complete special projects and other assignments as requested
Dispatcher Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Previous dispatch, transportation, logistics, customer service, or terminal-operations experience preferred
  • CDL preferred but not required
  • Basic knowledge of radio dispatch equipment
  • Strong communication and customer-service skills
  • Ability to remain calm and professional in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and respond quickly when service needs change
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Computer literacy, including email, Microsoft Office, spreadsheets, and related systems
  • Dependable attendance and punctuality
  • Ability to work the full Monday-Friday, 6:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. schedule
  • Subject to DOT drug testing and physical requirements when performing safety-sensitive duties.
  • DOT Regulation 49 CFR Part 40 does not authorize the use of Schedule I drugs, including marijuana, for any reason.
