This role is responsible for supervising a team that coordinates shipments according to customer instructions (SOPs) and ensures compliance with DOT regulations and established internal policies and guidelines. The supervisor will oversee the hiring of third-party marine draymen, negotiate pricing, and execute pick-ups and deliveries. Additionally, they will supervise the team in receiving and processing work orders from the US operations team to ensure dispatch within KPIs. The role acts as a point of contact for internal teams and escalations, and supports the implementation and supervision of colleagues responsible for chassis operations. The supervisor also handles carrier rate disputes as needed, collaborates with the team to resolve complex transportation issues, and ensures compliance and efficiency across operations.
Tasks & Responsibilities:
- Supervise a team handling marine drayage container movements, providing education and advice on technical and non-technical tasks, compliance requirements, and processes.
- Oversee dispatch to third-party draymen for U.S. international shipment pick-ups and deliveries using internal TMS systems.
- Assist in selling and executing ocean marine drayage services for FCL movements.
- Investigate service failures and establish responsibilities and accountabilities.
- Ensure timely pick-ups/deliveries and that internal system and KPI requirements are met.
- Streamline transportation communications between internal and external customers.
- Prioritize time-sensitive cargo and monitor TMS to ensure daily operations meet KPIs.
- Negotiate pricing with third-party draymen to maximize profits.
- Maintain constant communication within the team to ensure efficient carrier use and respond to inquiries.
- Ensure proper reporting, carrier invoicing, and system updates are conducted accurately and timely.
- Maintain and update carrier database regarding providers, rates, and expiration dates.
- Assist with ocean product goals to minimize cost exposure and eliminate risks.
- Ensure compliance with DOT regulations and internal policies.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Role-specific Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- 3-5 years experience in logistics and customer service.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Knowledge of import/export transload operations.
- Understanding of ocean export/import operations and budgeting.
- Experience with carrier deliveries, recovery processes, and terminal port/CY requirements.
