POSITION TITLE: DISPATCH SPECIALIST
Regular, Full-time, Non-Exempt

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The job involves aiding sworn personnel and the public, managing calls on the non-emergency line, monitoring the cell block via CCTV, communicating on township and county radios, and performing clerical duties.

This position requires excellent communication skills for interacting with the public, officers, detectives, and township staff.

Additional Information:

  • The Communications Specialist role is support-based, not a traditional 911 dispatch position, working with officers through secondary dispatching.
  • Work hours include nights, weekends, and holidays on a rotating schedule.
  • The position involves handling confidential data; a criminal background check is required.

Pay Rate:

  • Probationary Communications Specialist: $25.00/hour
  • Communications Specialist III: $1.00 increase on anniversary
  • Communications Specialist II: $1.00 increase on anniversary
  • Communications Specialist I: $1.00 increase on anniversary

*Increases do not include annual cost of living adjustments.

Full-Time Schedule Example:

  • Monday - Friday: 7am - 7pm
  • Saturday - Sunday: Off

Schedule may vary as per rotating shifts.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Monitor RMS, local, state, and federal databases; perform data entry.
  • Communicate with officers and agencies via law enforcement radio channels.
  • Monitor prisoner and officer safety via CCTV.
  • Assist law enforcement with activities.
  • Receive, prioritize, and forward calls for service.
  • Maintain records and files.
  • Assist the public with information and directions.
  • Coordinate arraignment hearings and related paperwork.
  • Handle payments for reports, tickets, and permits.
  • Process various permits and orders, including PFA and home checks.
  • Make notifications to PennDOT and the Game Commission.
  • Adhere to department policies and procedures.
