Job summary

The Gardens Care Homes in Scottsdale, AZ is seeking a reliable kitchen helper to maintain cleanliness and sanitation of dishware, utensils, and dining areas during an 8-hour shift. You will support safe, efficient kitchen operations and ensure food safety standards are met.

Responsibilities include loading and unloading the dish machine, washing pots and pans, and assisting with trash removal, mat cleaning, and basic cleaning duties.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• At least 1 year of restaurant/back-of-house experience.
• Knowledge of food safety and sanitation and applicable local standards.

Job description

Maintains cleanliness and sanitation standards for dishware, utensils, cookware, and kitchen/dining areas using machine and manual methods; supports safe, efficient kitchen operations.

Essential Job Functions

• Uphold cleanliness, sanitation, and organizational standards; sort/rinse dishes; load/ unload dish machine; rewash soiled items as needed.
• Wash pots, pans, and trays; set up/break down dish area; clean/roll mats; fill/empty soak tubs; sweep/mop; remove trash; clean around dumpster.
• Assemble/disassemble dish machine; maintain dry, safe floors; notify manager if wash/ rinse cycles fall below required temperatures.
• Maintain strict hand‑hygiene when switching from dirty to clean items; adhere to quality and presentation standards; support general kitchen/dining cleaning as directed.

Education

Experience

• Minimum one (1) year restaurant/senior living or equivalent back‑of‑house experience.

Knowledge/Skills

• Understanding of food safety and sanitation; local Health Department/OSHA standards; communication and teamwork.
• State‑required food safety certification/license as applicable.
• Comfort using Gardens Care’s approved systems is required: Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Drive, Gmail, Calendar, Meet), ECP (care management), Sagely (life enrichment/ activity documentation), and ADP (timekeeping, payroll, scheduling).

Special Requirements

• Medical clearance per policy.

Physical Activities

• Lift/carry up to 50 lbs.; climb/reach/bend/twist occasionally; stand/walk for most of an 8‑hr day; frequent handling of foodservice items.

Visual Requirements

• Read/communicate effectively; maintain a safe work environment.
• Kitchen with heat and typical BOH hazards; indoor/outdoor tasks as needed.
