Job description

The Kitchen Dishwasher provides support to the Food Bank’s Community Kitchen, ensuring a safe and sanitary environment for meal preparation and service to up to 1000 community residents.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

In this role, the Dishwasher assists the Culinary Team in maintaining cleanliness and safety in the kitchen environment. Candidates should be prepared to work in a high-pressure, fast-paced setting, adhering to Food Bank for New York City’s standards of quality, cleanliness, and efficiency. This position requires physical endurance and determination to meet standards and ensure guest satisfaction.

Responsibilities include:

1. Cleaning dishes, utensils, pots, pans, and glassware.
2. Maintaining cleanliness of restrooms and grounds.
3. Stocking supplies for the culinary team.
4. Following sanitation, health, and cleaning procedures according to health code standards.
5. Maintaining sanitary conditions in all kitchen areas.
6. Properly drying and storing dishes and utensils.
7. Cleaning garbage cans and managing waste disposal.
8. Receiving and unloading deliveries.
9. Supporting inventory management and product storage.
10. Maintaining logs for temperature, cleaning, and inventory.
11. Cleaning bathrooms and refilling dispensers.
12. Resetting the dining area after meals.
13. Cleaning kitchen appliances after dinner service.
14. Assisting in breaking down the dining area after meals.
15. Performing additional sanitation or food production tasks as assigned.
16. Cross-training for other kitchen roles.

Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or equivalent, with 2 years of custodian/dishwasher experience or training.
• Team-oriented with excellent communication and customer service skills.
• Ability to maintain a schedule and lift 30-50 lbs.
• Attending ServSafe training to understand DOH standards.
