Job description

General Purpose

The dietary aide assignments are determined based on the activity of the shift. He/she reports to the Cook and Dietary Supervisor.

Essential Duties

1. Must be able to learn food service routines within a short period.
2. Set up meal trays.
3. Strip down returned trays and start washing dishes.
4. Assist with serving different meals.
5. Check and record chlorine concentration and water temperature of the dishwashing machine at the beginning of the shift.
6. Observe water temperatures of the dishwasher during dishwashing cycles.
7. Prepare nourishments and snacks.
8. Sweep and mop the kitchen.
9. Carry out trash and garbage disposal.
10. Put groceries away in a safe, orderly, and clean manner.
11. Leave the kitchen in a clean and sanitary condition and assist when called upon by the cook or dietary supervisor.
12. Clean work surfaces and refrigerators.
13. Sweep, mop, and maintain floors.
14. Participate in orientation and ongoing training of dietary staff.
15. Work cooperatively and harmoniously with personnel in all departments.

Supervisory Requirements

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience

High school diploma or equivalent.

Language Skills

Ability to read technical procedures, follow recipes, and effectively communicate with managers and employees.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and interpret instructions in various formats.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Must obtain and maintain a food handler's certificate.

Physical Demands

Requires standing and walking frequently, sitting occasionally, reaching, pushing, pulling, talking, hearing, tasting, smelling, and lifting up to 50 pounds frequently. Occasionally climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. Vision must include close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception with the ability to adjust focus.
