Position Overview
The Dishwasher is responsible for maintaining cleanliness and sanitation standards for dishes, glassware, tableware, cooking utensils, and other kitchen equipment. This position also ensures the dishwashing area, stocking areas, and general kitchen are maintained as a clean, safe, and sanitary facility.
Essential Job Functions
- Collect used kitchenware from dining and kitchen areas.
- Load and unload dishwashing machines.
- Wash specific items by hand (e.g., wooden cutting boards, large pots, and delicate china).
- Store clean dishes, glasses, and equipment appropriately.
- Set up workstations before meal prep begins.
- Ensure an adequate supply of clean dishes, glasses, and utensils, especially during peak hours.
- Maintain cleaning supplies stock (e.g., detergents) and place orders when necessary.
- Check washing machines’ operation and promptly report any technical or performance issues.
- Remove garbage regularly.
- Sanitize the kitchen area, including the floor.
- Maintain a safe and clean work environment at all times.
- Show flexibility to work various schedules as business demands, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Qualifications
- High school diploma, GED certification, or equivalent experience preferred.
- Speed, accuracy, and consistency.
- Customer service skills required.
- Prioritization and time‑management skills required.
- Strong attention to detail.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods (up to 8 hours per shift).
- Frequent use of hands and arms to handle, wash, and store dishes, utensils, and kitchen equipment.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds regularly (dish racks, trash bins, supplies).
- Repetitive motions including bending, stooping, kneeling, and reaching throughout the shift.
- Ability to work in a fast‑paced, high‑temperature, and humid environment.
- Exposure to cleaning chemicals and sanitizing agents; must handle safely.
- Ability to tolerate frequent exposure to water, steam, and varying kitchen temperatures.
- Visual ability to identify cleanliness and maintain sanitation standards.
- Ability to safely operate dishwashing equipment and kitchen tools.
- Manual dexterity and coordination to perform repetitive cleaning tasks efficiently.
- Ability to maintain stamina and energy during peak service periods.
