Job summary

The Christian County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office is seeking a full-time Legal Assistant. The role involves reviewing pleadings, drafting motions, preparing discovery, and maintaining case files, with frequent contact with agencies, the public, victims, witnesses, defense attorneys, and staff.

Candidates should have a High School Diploma and ideally an Associate or Bachelor's in paralegal studies, plus at least three years of related experience.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma required.
• Associate or Bachelor’s Degree in paralegal studies preferred.
• Minimum of three years of related experience (Associate’s Degree can substitute for three years).
• Must be professional, courteous; have strong computer, keyboarding, verbal and written communication skills.
• Must identify and maintain confidential information.
• Must obtain and maintain MULES certification and run criminal histories.
• Must pass criminal background check and drug test (random testing).
• Must sign and abide by confidentiality agreement.

Responsibilities

• Review pleadings and correspondence and maintain the correct case file and keep the case APA apprised.
• Draft basic motions and correspondence.
• Prepare discovery and draft discovery letters.
• Daily contact with related agencies, the public, victims and witnesses, defense attorneys and staff (in person, by phone, and in writing).
• Occasionally accompany an APA to court to assist with docket entries.
• Occasionally handle media inquiries.
