Job description

The Discipleship Pastor leads CCE’s comprehensive effort to make, mature, and multiply disciples of Jesus Christ. This role carries pastoral responsibility for adult discipleship, C Groups and Activity Groups, gender-specific Bible studies and community groups (Devoted and Valor), marriage ministry, retreats, new believer development, Sunday service teams (prayer and ushers), and the ongoing recruitment and development of volunteer leaders. The Discipleship Pastor is not simply a program administrator but a shepherd-strategist who builds systems, raises up leaders, and cultivates a culture where spiritual growth is woven into the fabric of CCE’s community life.

What you'll do
  • Adult Discipleship Strategy: Develop and steward a comprehensive discipleship pathway for adults at CCE, creating clear on-ramps from salvation to spiritual maturity through classes, curriculum, and formational experiences that equip believers in doctrine, spiritual disciplines, and everyday Christian living.
  • C Group & Activity Group Ministry: Provide visionary and operational oversight of CCE’s community group ministry, which includes both C Groups (Bible study-centered community groups) and Activity Groups (interest and activity-based groups). Recruit, train, and coach group leaders across both tracks, cultivate a culture of multiplication and apprenticeship, and develop systems for launching new groups and connecting people into biblical community.
  • New Believer Development: Implement and oversee CCE’s new believer class using established curriculum. Recruit and equip facilitators, manage class scheduling and logistics, and ensure a clear pathway that moves new believers from initial faith into C Groups and ongoing discipleship.
  • Valor Men’s Ministry: Provide pastoral oversight and care for the full scope of Valor men’s ministry at CCE, including the Valor Bible study, Valor community groups, and the monthly Valor gathering where all men of the church come together. Shepherd group leaders and participants, collaborate with ministry leads on study content, coordinate logistics and facility setup, and recruit and deploy volunteers to execute the vision across all three expressions of the ministry.
  • Devoted Women’s Ministry: Serve in a support role to the Devoted women’s ministry team. Come alongside ministry leads to provide resources, coordination assistance, and pastoral support as needed, empowering the team to own and execute the vision for Devoted Bible study and community groups.
  • Marriage Ministry: Build and oversee a marriage ministry at CCE that serves couples at every stage. Develop programming, classes, and events that strengthen marriages, equip couples biblically, and provide pastoral care and referral pathways for couples who need additional support.
  • Retreats: Provide oversight for CCE’s Valor men’s retreat and marriage retreat, and offer support to the Devoted women’s ministry team for their retreat. Responsibilities include planning timelines, speaker coordination, registration, logistics, and volunteer support to ensure each retreat is spiritually substantive and operationally excellent.
  • Sunday Service Oversight: Provide pastoral oversight of CCE’s Sunday prayer team and usher team. Recruit, schedule, and develop volunteers for both teams, ensuring prayer coverage before and during services and that the usher team creates a warm, orderly, and welcoming environment for every weekend gathering. Serve as the primary point of accountability for these two teams’ health, culture, and execution.
  • Volunteer & Leader Development: Identify, recruit, and invest in volunteers and ministry leaders across all areas of responsibility. Build clear role expectations, provide ongoing training and coaching, and cultivate a culture of joy and ownership within the volunteer base.
Qualifications
  • Faith & Character: Vibrant and growing personal faith in Jesus Christ; full agreement with CCE’s statement of faith and Calvary Chapel distinctives; pastoral character marked by humility, relational maturity, and a genuine passion for seeing believers grow in community.
  • Experience: 3+ years of pastoral or discipleship ministry leadership in a local church. Proven ability to develop leaders, build discipleship systems, and manage multiple ministry areas. Experience in small group ministry, adult education, or pastoral care preferred.
  • Skills: Strong teaching and communication skills (written and verbal); organizational competency across multiple ministry tracks; proficiency in Planning Center; working knowledge of curriculum development and small group ministry structures.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in biblical studies, theology, Christian ministry, or a related field preferred. Graduate-level theological education a plus; significant ministry experience may be considered in lieu of formal degree.
