Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Disability Specialist for the Office of Employment Equity. The Disability Specialist will report to the Assistant Director, Accommodations, Office of Employment Equity.

  • Assists in maintaining a program for ensuring the university’s compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, as amended ("ADA"), and the New Jersey Law Against Discrimination (disability & religion) ("LAD") with regard to university employees.
  • Consults and collaborates with the employee/faculty requesting accommodation, the employee’s department, and others, as appropriate, and prepares communications regarding same.
  • Trains supervisors and other affected persons in the requirements of the ADA and LAD , the university’s procedures for handling requests for workplace accommodations, and related issues.
  • Assists in maintaining a central record of accommodation requests received by the university and of responses to such requests.

Work Arrangement

Consistent with the current application of Rutgers Policy 60.3.22 or the applicable provisions of relevant collective negotiations agreements, this position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement. Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of five years of administrative experience, preferably in a higher education environment or an equivalent combination of education and/or related experience.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Computer literacy to include Microsoft Office software.
  • Experience in exercising a high level of confidentiality in disseminating sensitive information and providing exceptional customer service.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Oracle PeopleSoft.
  • JD degree.
