Job summary

The City of New York seeks an Agency Attorney LIII to supervise the Disability Rights Unit, oversee Reasonable Accommodation processes for all personnel, and coordinate public requests. The role requires strong knowledge of Title VII, ADA, and NY laws, plus independent judgment and excellent interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities include guiding the cooperative dialogue, ensuring compliance with regulations, preparing reports, and advising senior leadership on disability rights issues.

Qualifications

• Admission to the New York State Bar.
• One year of legal experience after admission, or six months as Agency Attorney Interne.

Responsibilities

• Provide supervision, legal guidance, and oversight of RA review and Cooperative Dialogue.
• Oversee Cooperative Dialogue with employees and management and assess accommodations.
• Ensure RA practices comply with federal, state, local laws and internal policies.
• Assist employees/managers in understanding rights and responsibilities on accommodations.
• Guide and support the Assistant Commissioner and Director, Office of Equal Employment Opportunity.
• Prepare and submit quarterly/annual reports on RA requests and DRU activities.
• Correspond with FDNY personnel, management, medical practitioners to evaluate RA requests.
• Serve as Disability Service Facilitator and coordinate responses to public requests.
• Investigate disability discrimination complaints and prepare findings/recommendations.
• Research legal/policy issues in disability rights and RA; stay current on laws.
• Collaborate with Legal Affairs and stakeholders to revise RA policies and procedures.
• Work with Office of Labor Relations on labor matters involving RA, including arbitration prep.
• Develop and maintain record-keeping/data-tracking processes for reporting.
