Job summary

UW-Whitewater seeks a visionary leader to administer and plan programs for student veterans, service members, and adult students. The role oversees GI Bill processing as a Certified Official and guides the Veterans Benefit Coordinator, ensuring efficient benefit applications and eligible support for families.

The position directs departmental fiscal management, hires and trains staff, and aligns campus services with admissions and transfer programs to bolster student success and career readiness.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required.
• 3+ years of experience working with or serving veterans and/or military service members.
• 3+ years of higher education experience in student support, advising or non-traditional student services.
• Demonstrated knowledge of GI Bills, federal and state laws and guidelines related to veterans’ services, programs and educational benefits.
• Experience with student success software (e.g., PeopleSoft, Navigate/EAB).
• Ability to interact respectfully with people from diverse socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds.

Responsibilities

• Provide visionary leadership in administration, management and strategic planning for student veterans, service members and adult students.
• Serve as a Veterans Certifying Official, managing GI Bill and related education benefit processing.
• Supervise and support the Veterans Benefit Coordinator.
• Direct university support for student veterans and families.
• Advise the veteran student organization and chair the Chancellorers Veteran and Military Service Members Committee.
• Connect students to campus and community resources (advising, tutoring, counseling, financial aid, career services, housing).
• Provide individualized coaching on goal setting, time management, stress management, study skills, and career exploration.
• Use Navigate to identify at-risk students and intervene.
• Maintain FERPA-compliant confidential student records.
• Collaborate with Admissions and community colleges to strengthen transfer pipelines.
• Conduct outreach at transfer fairs and military education events.
