Job summary

Capital One seeks a Director in Card Risk to lead a team of Vertical Risk Managers, partnering with Executives and lines of business to drive innovative risk solutions. The role focuses on data management, platforms controls, and DMDC governance across CDP.

You will guide risk categorization frameworks, perform detailed assessments, and influence enterprise risk posture with strong leadership and communication. This is a full-time, on-site position in the Capital One risk organization.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or military experience.
• At least 7 years of experience in risk management in financial services or technology.
• At least 5 years of program management experience.
• At least 5 years of experience partnering with internal business clients.
• At least 5 years of people management experience.
• At least 3 years of experience in reporting and analyzing data.

As a Director in Capital One’s Card Risk organization, you will apply your leadership and analytical skills to our highest profile Risk Management projects. You will lead a team of Vertical Risk Managers while acting as a thought leader working across the enterprise to develop and implement cutting edge Risk solutions to ensure Capital One’s continued stability and success. Directors in Capital One’s Risk Management organization partner with Executives and lines of business to drive organizational change in order to better manage the Company’s Risk in an open, collaborative environment where new ideas and solutions are both welcomed and rewarded.

Directors in Risk Management at Capital One are highly motivated Risk Management professionals with excellent organizational, leadership and communication skills. They have a high level of exposure across lines of business and the opportunity to work with Executives to create and implement innovative solutions to identify and mitigate potential risks to the Company.

This role leads the vertical risk management function for Card Data & Platforms (CDP), which includes risk advisory in the areas of data management, data products, and platform controls within the Card Data, Models, Decisioning, & Credit (DMDC) organization.

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree or Military experience
• At least 7 years of experience working in risk management in financial services or technology
• At least 5 years of program management experience
• At least 5 years of experience supporting, partnering and interacting with internal business clients
• At least 5 years of people management experience
• At least 3 years of experience in reporting and analyzing data
• At least 2 years of data risk management or data product management experience

Preferred Qualifications

• Masters Degree
• 7+ years of Financial Services or Technology risk management experience
• 7+ years of experience in Project or Process Management
• 5+ years of internal strategy or management consulting experience leading cross functional financial services projects and programs
• 7+ years of people management experience
• 5+ years of experience in reporting and analyzing data
• 3+ years of experience in data risk management or data product management experience

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.

• Chicago, IL: $187,300 - $213,700 for Director, Risk Management
• McLean, VA: $206,000 - $235,100 for Director, Risk Management
• Richmond, VA: $187,300 - $213,700 for Director, Risk Management

This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
