Overview:

Sentara Health is seeking to hire a qualified individual to join our team as Director, Underwriting.

Position Status: Full-time, Day Shift

Position Location: This position is remote.

Standard Working Hours: 8:00AM to 5:00PM (ET).

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • 5 years management required.
  • 7 years health underwriting required.

Expectations for this Role:

Sentara Health is seeking a Director, Underwriting. This should have heavy FL or VA underwriting experience. The leader for this role is looking for a good leader with intellectual curiosity and how to improve processes via AI (if this is something you have leveraged). The Director, Underwriter will manage personnel and functions associated with underwriting including Large Group and Small Group ( both with various funding methods) and other products as necessary recognizing and mitigating underwriting risks. This position will manage and provide oversight of proper application of all rating systems and formulae and working with actuaries in maintaining and updating rating systems. The Dir, Underwriter will manage staff for employer group reporting and various other financial reporting requirements including both routine and ad hoc reports. This position will also meet occasionally with brokers and key external customers.

Knowledge of health insurance and HMO finances, products and business practices.
